Before and after plastic surgery: What questions to ask before and what to expect afterward

Having plastic surgery isn’t something that you want to consider lightly. Even if you’ve decided that it’s definitely the right choice for you, you still want to think about some important things to help you make the right decision. Deciding when and where to have the procedure, for example, is going to be a big question. Whether you’re thinking about plastic surgery or non-surgical cosmetic procedures, there’s plenty to plan out before you have it done.

If you’re not sure what steps are involved, keep reading to find out how to begin your cosmetic surgery journey and what you need to consider what questions you should be asking before your cosmetic procedure!

Where to Start

The first thing to think about is what you want and expect from having plastic surgery. What do you want to change? How do you expect the procedure will change how you look and maybe how you feel about yourself? This is important to consider to make sure you have plastic surgery for the right reasons. It could make you happier with your appearance or help you to feel younger, but it won’t fix any major problems in your life.

If you’re sure that you’re considering plastic surgery for the right reasons, you also need to decide which procedure might be right for you. At this stage, you will want to do some initial research on what options are available for you. For example, if you’d like to get rid of stubborn fat deposits, you might be choosing between liposuction or coolsculpting. Or, if your concerns are your breasts, there are many plastic surgery options, you may choose between a breast lift, a breast augmentation, or a breast reduction. These are different ways that you can achieve similar goals, so it’s worth understanding how they differ.

Surgical or non-surgical?

Some of the factors that could make a difference when choosing a procedure include whether a treatment is surgical or non-surgical, how long the recovery is, and whether it’s permanent. Surgical treatments include cosmetic surgery, it is a surgical specialty that includes the restoration or modification of the human body. It can be categorized into two principal types, reconstructive surgery, and cosmetic surgery. Reconstructive plastic surgery includes hands surgeries and microsurgery. Cosmetic surgery aims to increase the appearance of something on our body or improve the functions of our body while cosmetic surgery aims to enhance its appearance. In plastic surgery, the goal is to restore the human body. It’s worth understanding the difference between cosmetic or reconstructive surgery.

Non-Surgical procedures generally include treatments that don’t require an incision or anesthetic, such as dermal fillers, micro-needling, or laser treatments.

Research and Education

After you’ve done some initial research about the surgical techniques and treatments available to you, you can do some more in-depth research into the plastic surgery procedure that you’re interested in. Hopefully, at this stage, you have at least some idea of what the procedures entail. If not, it’s time to make sure you understand what it involves and how it is carried out.

There are some different types of information that you will find useful. One type of information is material that explains the procedures, how it works, and what it can do for you. Another type of research that will help is looking up patient stories and reviews to find out about people’s real experiences. While it’s useful to read or hear about the theory behind the procedures or treatment, it can be much more interesting to hear how people feel after they have had it.

Evidence

Look for stories of people who have had the procedure to see how they felt about the process and the results. You can find plenty of these on the websites of plastic surgeons, hospitals, or clinics. However, it’s also useful to look for these stories elsewhere if you’re looking for a slightly broader perspective. It’s important to get a range of views, and not to only see procedures that have gone wrong or people who have had positive experiences. A mix of opinions and experiences will give you the real picture and help you to make up your mind.

It’s also useful to have a more visual guide to the plastic surgery procedure you are considering. You can often find before and after photos, which are very helpful when you want to know more about the results that you can expect. It’s important to look at after pictures after the healing time, not just pictures on the operating table.

Finding a Plastic Surgeon

When you’re sure that you want to have your chosen plastic surgery procedure, you need to find the right plastic surgeon. This is an extremely important stage because the quality of the work will make a significant difference in the results that you get. Many of the negative experiences that you might find are the result of a poorly qualified plastic surgeon who has done poor quality work.

Take your time choosing a plastic surgery doctor who is right for you whilst having the highest standards and patient care. There’s no rush to have your procedure done and it’s more important to get the right surgeon who considers patient safety than to have it done quickly. You should book consultations with more than one doctor so that you can talk to them about their experience and how they carry out the procedure. It’s also a good time to get a feel for them and if you like them. You can discover if they are compassionate and understanding, as well as if they are good at communicating and explaining things to you.

You should ask about the experience that they have carrying out the procedure. It’s a good idea to prepare a few questions to ask so that you can find out more about them when you have a consultation.

Some of the questions that you might want to ask include:

●     What are your qualifications?

●     Who will operate on me?

●     What are the potential risks and complications? How likely are they?

●     What results can I expect and how long will they last?

●     How many of your chosen procedures have they performed previously?

●     Are your aesthetic goals realistic? Have they performed on a patient with similar goals?

Don’t be afraid to ask for more information!

It’s also a good idea to consider some of the legal aspects of booking a plastic surgery procedure. For example, what is the cooling-off period that allows you to change your mind? Is your surgeon adequately insured? If traveling abroad. have you arranged appropriate insurance.

Plastic Surgeon Qualifications

You need to be sure that any doctor, hospital, or plastic surgeon clinic that you choose has high standards. This includes ensuring the surgeon and their team have the right qualifications and that there are safe and adequate facilities.

When you are looking for the right doctor for your plastic surgery, they should be a board-certified plastic surgeon in the medical board or professional organization. For example,  in the UK, they might be a member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) or the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive or Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), or in the USA it would be The American Board Of Plastic Surgery (ABPS).

In Turkey, your surgeon should be a member of the Turkish Society of Plastic Surgery, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery, and in the rest of Europe, they might be a member of the European Board Organization for Plastic Surgery, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS) or other local organizations.

Choosing A Plastic Surgery Center

As well as checking on the qualifications and accreditations of your plastic surgeon, you should ensure the hospital or clinic where the procedure will be performed is also up to standard. It should be a clean and comfortable place where the procedure can be carried out safely. There should be facilities that allow you to recover and perhaps rest, depending on the procedure and recovery time.

You might also be looking for various extras from a hospital. Do they provide anything to entertain you while you’re waiting for your procedure or waiting to go home? Do you have the option of a private room while you’re recovering?

At home or abroad?

If you are traveling from abroad or out of town, Do they help you with things like organizing travel to and from the clinic? Do they have Fluent English-speaking staff? Do they have a recovery house? What services are included in the recovery house? These are all important things that you might wish to consider when choosing a plastic surgeon and hospital. Reviews of the surgeon and the plastic surgeon clinic will help you to get an accurate picture of what they are like and whether they are the right choice for you.

Set a Date for Your Procedure

Setting the date for your plastic surgery is the final step after you have decided which provider is right for you. However, it’s not as simple as simply choosing any date that you feel like. When you’re thinking about when might be the right time, you should consider the steps involved in attending your appointment and what you might need to do before and after.

To choose the right date, be sure to check what the recovery time will be like. This will help you to plan any time off that you might need. If you will be traveling, you will also need to build travel time into your schedule. You might want to try and book further in advance so that your travel costs are more affordable. Finances are another thing to think about. What is the financing procedure if you want a way to spread the cost of the procedure? It’s important that you’re in a position to pay for the procedure or repay any money that you borrow. You should also take out insurance if you want to protect yourself and your finances.

Planning surgery Aftercare

Another thing that you might want to arrange is what will happen after your plastic surgery. It’s helpful to know what recovery is going to look like and what support and after-care you will receive. Will you be required or do you have the option to stay at the clinic during your recovery? If you return home or to your own accommodation will you need someone to look after you, and for how long?

What sort of garments or aids are provided after the surgery to provide you with support while you’re healing? If these things aren’t provided for you, you might need to arrange them before you turn up for your procedure. You need to have a good understanding of the healing and recovery process, you will need to know, how long should you take off work? how long until you can resume exercise and physical activity.
